A three-day small-group intensive designed to help beginning players build strong, musical habits from the start. We’ll focus on the essentials that make everything else easier—comfortable technique, rhythm, chord changes, strumming, listening, ensemble skills, and how to practice effectively—through hands-on instruction in my Austin studio. The small-group format leaves plenty of room for individual attention, interaction, and different ways of learning together. Over the course of the weekend, we’ll build the fundamental skills that make playing the ukulele easier, more comfortable, and more musical!

What You’ll Learn
- How to hold and position the ukulele comfortably
- Relaxed, efficient strumming technique and basic rhythmic patterns
- How to read chord diagrams and ukulele tablature
- Essential beginner chords and how to move smoothly between them
- Playing simple scales, melodies, and riffs
- Using those skills in folk, blues, country, and jazz
- How to practice effectively without simply playing the same thing over and over
Who Is This For?
Ukulele Foundations is designed for brand-new and beginning players, including those who have never played an instrument before and players who know a few chords or songs but want stronger fundamentals.
It’s also a great fit for someone who receives a ukulele for Christmas — or for anyone giving a ukulele as a gift and wanting to include a meaningful next step along with the instrument.
No music-reading experience is required.
The Weekend
This isn’t a large workshop where you disappear into the back row. Enrollment is limited to 12 players, allowing us to work together as an ensemble while still leaving room for individual instruction, questions, and different learning styles.
